turns out they are pre-installed n the new AO Smith water heaters even tho it says on outside of box you need to buy 'em; save your money possibly useful for an old heater, but on my old system they had no effect, the cold ncoming line still got quite warm over 18" length they are useful as simple joiners since they have nice smooth plastic tip that is friendly to the special supply line seals that you really should buy instead of using hose washers

Make sure to pull your old ones out of the water heater. I assumed mine were these size and what I got back home with them and opened the package, once I removed one of mine, these were too short. Not Lewes fault, mine not knowing what my Rheem had in it.

This saved us. after putting in a new water heater, my husband tightened the fitting on the nipple that came with the water heater too tightly and we couldn't get it off again. A new nipple fixed the issue.

I work ar HomeDepot and had to go to Lowe's to find the products I needed. Other than I had to hunt down an associate it was a good experience. Also if you're a veteran its easier to get the discount here.

These fit exactly as described. My old ones were a little hard to get out. Need a good pipe wrench for the old removal.

I used these nipples to plumb a hot water tank. I screwed one inti the hit water exit and cold water inlet on the top of my AO Smith electric water heater. Then I attached a braided hose line to the other end of one nipple, and a gate valve on the other nipple. I sealed them with Teflon tape and they leaked. I tried again with pipe dope and they still leaked. The problem seemed to be that the threaded ends were bottoming out in the tank and the other fittings. The plastic part of the nipple protrudes out the end of the nipple and bottoms out in the fittings before the threads can seal completely. I replaced these nipples with regular brass nipples and they sealed up completely. No leaks. I don't recommend these nipples in applications where the nipple bottoms out in the fitting it is screwed into.

for the price you will be better off buying regular nipples, i still had to add rubber hose washers to keep them from leaking.
