When Lisa Grant moves back home to care for her mother, she must take a job as research assistant to the local district attorney, even though she has been a lawyer for a number of years. The DA just happens to be a Scott Buchanan whom she's known since they were both children. Although she finds him annoying, she is strongly attracted to him. While performing research, Lisa discovers a cold case file that has a photo in it of a young woman who looks exactly like her. As she starts investigating, lethal accidents start happening to her and she realizes that someone will kill to keep the details of this case secret. With the help of Scott and others in the DA's office she tries to solve the case before before she is killed. This was a very suspenseful book and the identity of the killer was totally unexpected.

I enjoyed this story about Lisa Grant a research assistant to the DA in her home town. She has a mother who is ill, a estranged father, she is working for a childhood friend that she always drove crazy, and is dating the rich son of one of her father's friends. She is assigned to cold cases in the basement of the law firm where she is temporaily working and discovers that a family of 4 went missing when she was a child and becomes interested in this case. Because of her interest bad thing start happening to her family so she confides in her boss and they began looking into this case along with a group of misfit teenagers that need something to do. This was a fast read and like I said at the beginning the plot was interesting. I would recommend this book.

Shattered3.5 StarsThe premise has potential, but the execution is not up to Robards standards. The pacing is off with the build up to both the mystery and the romance slow and often tedious. That said, the last 150 pages are intense and exciting and the resolution satisfactory. The romance is a solid love/hate relationship. Scott and Lisa are both engaging characters, particularly Scott who has had to work twice as hard to achieve his success given his family life, and you cannot help but admire him. Lisa, on the other hand, comes across as somewhat spoiled and self-absorbed but she obviously cares for her mother and Scott, which makes her more likable as the story progresses. Scott and Lisa have excellent chemistry but also tend to bicker incessantly, which may rub some readers the wrong way. The secondary characters are very superficially drawn, and as such the ultimate revelation of the villain comes out of nowhere and the explanation of events and motives is unrealistic. All in all, not the worst but definitely not the best that Robards has written.

I love the movie so I wanted to read this and see if I could get more from the story. It's actually almost identical to the movie, though. Apparently, the movie is the most accurate adaptation of a book ever so there's not much more here except for a couple tiny scenes that were probably planned to be in the movie and eliminated at some point for time or whatever. In any case, this is a fun book and even knowing the story... Read Full Review

Why am I giving this book 5 stars when the writing isn't especially great? Because Ira Levin hit every right note in "Rosemary's Baby" and made it into an instantaneous horror classic. On one level, it's a great horror story; on another, it's also a kind of morality play: God has a son; what happens when the devil gets jealous and wants one too? Enter Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse, almost-newlyweds, new tenants in an old,... Read Full Review

Even though the ending to this book is known by all, you are still likely to find yourself in suspense over whether or not the nice old neighbors are really just nice old neighbors or if they are going to sacrifice the baby. Ira Levin writes breezy thrillers, well-crafted from beginning to end with compelling characters, nicely woven plots and several surprises. It's not until you read several badly contrived thrillers... Read Full Review
